RECENT BEAUTY FAVES

IMG_4194

For the past few months, these products have been my everyday essentials. If I could choose only five makeup items from my collection, it would be these five. Seriously. They are all fantastic products that I will continue to purchase, so I figured I’d share my recommendations!

Lipstick: I’ve been obsessed with Tom Ford Spanish Pink for some time now. To me, it’s the perfect pinky nude color – great for everyday. It feels incredibly creamy on the lips and has great staying power. In the grand scheme of lipsticks, TF is pricy, but nothing else quite compares. I always find myself reaching for this shade.

Lipliner: This lipliner came in an infamous #KylieLipkit. Though the liquid lipstick is a great product (a tad drying like any liquid lip), I love this lipliner, which you can now buy individually. It’s super creamy, pigmented, and does. not. budge. Along with the aforementioned TF Spanish Pink, I wear Koko K lipliner on a daily basis. The specific color combo is perfect and I find that the respective formulas play well together.

Mascara: As someone not blessed with long, lush, natural lashes, I was always kind of let down by mascaras. My lashes never looked like the ads (duh, photoshop) and never gave me that movie-star look (duh, falsies). Though Chanel Le Volume isn’t photoshop or falsies, it’s pretty close. It lengthens while adding volume and manages to coat every single baby lash in the blackest black. It also doesn’t flake or smudge. Definitely my holy grail mascara.

Highlighter: A couple months ago, I was in the market for a new highlighter. Several beauty bloggers I watch on Youtube had raved about the Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer, so I checked it out for myself. Y’all. This product is everything. It gives the most stunning glow that blends into the skin seamlessly without bringing attention to any texture. You can brush on a little for a natural look or build it up to a blinding highlight. I have it in 002 Pink Glow, but there are three other shades to suit your skin tone.

Brow Gel: I love a good, strong, Cara Delevingne brow, but good Lord I won’t spend another minute sketching away at them. Benefit Gimme Brow is a tinted gel with little fibers that build volume. It keeps brow hairs in place while totally defining them. I’m pretty happy with my natural brow shape, so this product is ideal for me. I can just swipe it on and go.

Do you have any recent beauty faves? I’d love to hear them!

LONG HAIR DOES CARE

Is anyone else obsessed with having long princess hair? The five year old in me loves channelling Tangled. That said, my hair used to be literally tangled. Long hair that’s thick but very fine? Good LORD just the thought of brushing my hair could bring tears to my eyes and even tempted me to bring scissors to my tresses. Then, a couple years back, I discovered this magical brush. I feel like a lot of you have probably heard of the Wet Brush, or seen it at Target, but y’all, I’m here to tell ya to run out the door and buy one right now. If you never want to rip through snarly hair again, here’s the solution. This brush is specifically designed to combat tangled, knotty hair post wash (you can use it on dry hair too)! It literally slides through my hair without any pulling or breakage and I can carry on with my long locks. I feel like I’m hosting an infomercial for this product but I’m seriously obsessed and I think you will be too!

THE BEST GINGHAM SHIRT EVER

unnamed

Isn’t that a riveting title? This is important stuff. Seriously though, this J.Crew Factory gingham has been such a staple top for me all summer and will continue to be well on into fall. It’s very light without being sheer and hangs just perfectly. Sometimes I feel too “buttoned up” in button down shirts (imagine that!), but the collar/placket falls just so on this shirt. Think that disheveled chic look. I’ve been pairing mine with easy drawstring shorts (try these) and my fave Joie sandals. It’s also perfect to throw on over your suit at the pool! A gingham button down is such a great basic for everyone, and this one is a great deal too. It’s only $44.50 but y’all know Factory always has sales, so you’ll probably be able to pick it up for even less.

FUTURE’S SO BRIGHT

Gotta wear shades. Three types in particular: black, tort, and an aviator. Granted, I’d love a whole truckload of sunglasses, but regardless, I think it’s important to have at least one pair in each category! As with all eyewear, it’s crucial to find a size/shape that fits your face. I always see these petite lil ladies channeling the Olsen twins in GIANT sunglasses, practically falling off their faces! I’m all for a huge pair of sunnies, like hello, none of these pictured are exactly small, but y’all know what I mean. Definitely take the time to play around, and find the right pair for your face – bigger isn’t always better in the sunglasses department. Sunglass Hut has a nice little guide here!

Black: I recently purchased these perfect incognito Dolce & Gabbana shades. Typically, cat-eye sunglasses irritate me, it’s just too much of a trendy novelty. This pair, however, has just the slightest tinge of a cat-eye, plus the jet black frame and dark gradient lenses make them super serious – anything but a novelty. I throw these on for the days when I don’t have make-up on and would rather die than run into someone I know (daily). That said, they look equally appropriate with a more formal, dressed up look.

Aviator: I’ve definitely talked about Ray-Bans before because let’s face it: they’re the ultimate sunglasses. My grandpa always wore the classic gold frames/green lenses and no one will ever look as cool as he did – though I definitely try. This just goes to show everyone can wear aviators, from me to my papa, and everyone else! I have this classic pair, but I’m also really warming up to the bright mirrored lenses that have been everywhere for the last few seasons. I love how an aviator sits up off your face, making them perfect for summer when your make-up is melting off half the time. Just me? Oh. These are the sunglasses I keep in my bag at all times, and they always look appropriate.

Tort: I love this pair from Tory Burch. They definitely fall into that cliche “Jackie O” category but I’m into it. Tortoiseshell just adds a little something to any outfit, and again, goes with everything. I think that might be the theme of this post, versatility. Anyway, I think the tortoiseshell is a little softer of a look than the black, for those days when you aren’t necessarily hiding from anyone 😉

If you’re looking to start or expand your sunglasses wardrobe, take a little inventory to see if you have all your bases covered! With a respective pair (or pairs!) in each category, you’ll be ready for anything! Check out the little widget below for some more of my faves (pssst one pair is just $12)!

Best Ballets

Click to Shop!

Happy Tuesday y’all! Wow, two posts in a row, I’m outdoing myself! Really though, I’m working on being consistent with posts and scheduling, this past week was just a mess. Anyway, today I’m talking about my favorite shoe: the ballet flat. To me, there is no easier shoe. You can throw some flats on with anything and you’ll look polished and put together. That said, not all ballets are created equal. According to one of my favorite books, I Love Your Style by Amanda Brooks (yep, the one in this post), there are several guidelines when buying flats. The most important tip listed is to make sure your flats don’t have too rounded of a toe. This looks tacky, widens the foot, and makes your legs appear stumpy. An almost pointed, egg-shaped toe looks refined and lengthens the legs, who doesn’t want that? Think Chanel. Brooks also recommends the flattest flats, which I happen to love. I know, though, that sometimes comfort wins, so I featured a couple options with a little heel too! Her third tip is making sure the shoe is cut low, without showing too much “toe cleavage.” Click to shop some of my favorite ballets that are the most FLATtering (clever, right?) for your feet and legs!

Product Review: Big Sexy Hair Full Bloom

Click to Shop!

While paging through the June issue of InStyle, I discovered my newest obsession: Big Sexy Hair Full Bloom. Along with several other products boasting longevity, it was tested by beauty editors and passed the test. It offers 72 hour volume, shine, and smells amazing. Apply to damp hair, from root to tip, and blow dry. After I first used it, I literally felt like I had just walked out of a Dry Bar. My hair was shiny, super soft, super voluminous, and honestly didn’t feel like there was any product in it. You know how mousse or other volume-boosters can leave your hair feeling sticky, heavy, or even “chunky?” Not an issue with Full Bloom. Also, if you’re like me and skip washing your hair for a day (or two), I found my hair was less greasy and had just as much body as the first day! You know what they say, the higher the hair, the closer to Heaven, so run out and pick up this little miracle!

…or maybe not! Welcome back ya’ll, I hope everyone is having a great week!  Today, I’m talking beauty. I definitely don’t claim to be a make-up expert, but these are my favorite, go-to products.  I LOVE Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, which, if you have dry skin, you should run out and buy right this minute. It’s moisturizing, SPF 15, and leaves a dewy, natural finish (If you tend to have more oily skin, try Lumiere Velvet). I put it on with this amazing MAC brush, which is second only to literal airbrushing. Under my eyes, I use Chanel Eclat Lumiere Face Pen, which brightens up dark circles. For bronzer, I use the littlest bit of Chanel Les Beiges, I find it adds a subtle, sunkissed glow. I recently purchased the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit and I’m obsessed. Having fair skin, it’s really easy to look orange, but this palette is more beige, so the contour looks natural. It also comes with an angled brush which is a welcome bonus. As for eyes, Origins Eye Doctor is the best eye cream. It prevents wrinkles and de-puffs – can’t hate that!  This Chanel eyeliner is absolute perfection. It’s waterproof and truly stays on all day long. I use the color “ambre dore” which is a copper shade, ideal for my fellow blue-eyed girls. Try it on your lower waterline! On my lashes, I swear by Benefit’s They’re Real! After many trials and tribulations, this mascara is the closest thing you’ll find to false lashes. For brows, I love the Dior Powder Brow pencil. It’s very build-able, so I don’t have to worry about having Sharpie brows. Lastly, my all time favorite scent is Bvlgari Omnia Coral.  It has fruity and floral notes, but isn’t too heavy – perfect for everyday. Of course, I use a whole host of other lotions and potions, but these stand out from all the rest. I hope you have the chance to try some of these products!

In My White Tee

I feel like celebrities are always saying how the sexiest thing a girl can wear is a white t-shirt.  While that sentiment is nice and makes them seem super down to earth…finding the perfect white tee is actually quite the challenge.  For such a simple garment, a lot goes into it.  You don’t want it to be too sheer, it has to hang nicely, the cut has to be just so…maybe I’ve put too much thought into this (I have).  Regardless, I finally found it, the perfect, most effortless white t-shirt.  It’s from BCBG and right now, you can get 25% off thanks to their Friends & Family event!  Made of modal/poly, it won’t shrink, maintains shape, and doesn’t wrinkle.  This shirt boasts a relaxed fit and an asymmetrical hemline which elongates the torso aka you look like you just did a cleanse without even consuming a single drop of cayenne pepper water.  What’s not to love about that?  I’ve been wearing mine with leggings and flats but can’t wait to pair it with denim cutoffs and gladiators this summer!
