Mason Pearson Popular Brush (even comes with a cute little brush to clean the big one)

In a word: yes. I have really thick, fine, long hair and brushing it can be a nightmare. A couple weeks ago, I folded and purchased a Mason Pearson hairbrush. I’d been looking to make the investment for years and I’m so thrilled I finally did. The boar bristles are the ideal medium for evenly distributing natural oils throughout your hair, thereby improving hair health, smoothing, and adding shine. I must say, my hair has never been shinier, or softer. It also detangles like nobody’s business and feels so comfortable on the scalp. I have the Popular model, which is a large, combination (nylon/boar) bristle brush. Find the right model for your hair type here! This is definitely an investment, $100+ for a brush is…aggressive, I know. For me, it’s about cost-per-use. I literally take pleasure in brushing my hair now, whereas I used to avoid the task whenever possible. The initial sticker shock is easy to justify when’s it’s something I’ll use daily for years! Plus, it looks so chic sitting on the vanity 😉

Dior Crème de Rose

Hi there! Happy Super Tuesday I guess? Do people say that? Anyway, wouldn’t ya know, the day after I talk about how awkward this time of year is, I wake up to snow. I guess it just proves my point. March is weird y’all. Today, I want to do a little product review of Dior Crème de Rose lip balm. While perusing the various and sundry lip enhancing products that Dior has to offer, I bought this thinking it was a lip plumper. I mean the package reads “Smoothing and Plumping,” so I was like “Ok, here’s $30,” because I’m such a practical person, of course. When I didn’t exactly get the Kylie Jenner treatment (but I will when my #kylielipkit comes because I’m nuts and bought one of those too muahaha), I actually did some research, read some reviews, and learned the emphasis is on “smoothing.” This product is meant to nourish and soothe lips, you know, like a typical lip balm. What sets Crème de Rose apart is that it fills in fine lines, leaving lips smooth and full. Though it doesn’t produce the effects of getting shot up with collagen, my lips definitely appeared “plumped” in the sense that they were nourished and looked healthy. It is enriched with Damask Rose essential oil which is incredibly moisturizing and has anti-aging properties. I’ve found Crème de Rose to be a fantastic lipstick primer, especially for matte formulas, as it provides the perfect foundation. I also slather it on before bed for super-soft lips in the morning. So, even though this product didn’t do quite what I expected, I’m a convert. If you’re just in the market for a basic lip balm, you probably don’t need this. However, if you’re looking for a smoothing lip primer that’s also restorative, moisturizing, and anti-aging, put this on your list (and lips too lol)!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone is having a wonderful 2016 so far! I took some time off from posting during the holidays, but I’m back with some great things planned for the blog this year. Today, I wanted to share two products I find myself reaching for more and more.

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo: My best friend gave me this little miracle for Christmas, and I’ve been wearing both bright, bold colors on repeat. It is the creamiest formula that delivers the biggest color pay-off (so rich!). Online, they’re sold out of most colors (I think this item was prob a big stocking stuffer), but at my Sephora, they still have a lot left, and rumor has it they’re now just $10 in-store! I am LIVING for Pomegranate, the pinkier tint of this duo. It’s still just as much of a statement-maker as the red (Palomino), but a bit easier to wear for day. If you can’t find a duo for you, here are the full-sized versions in the same formula.

Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone: This multi-purpose clear primer pencil is a game changer. It can be used to fill in fine lines/pores/whatever all over the face, but I use it for outlining my lips! It completely prevents lipstick from feathering or smudging, and keeps everything in place. You can even use it to “clean up” lipstick after applying, so if you have trouble coloring inside the lines, this is for you.

When I wear these products together, I have found lipliner becomes obsolete. So for around $30 total, you get two complete lip looks. That’s quite a deal considering just a lipstick can set you back like $36…why do I continue to hoard them then? Anyway! I definitely recommend these products, let me know if you’ve tried them!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Happy Monday! I recently featured this product in a #weeklywishlist and just had to give it a whirl. In a word, I’m obsessed. I once had a beauty counter girl tell me that I didn’t need eyeshadow primer and to just use my foundation. This was seriously years ago, but for some reason I let it stick with me, and never really considered using a primer on my lids. Now, this wasn’t a huge problem in my life because on an everyday basis, I didn’t wear much eyeshadow. I’m lazy and (until very recently) by midday, my eye makeup would look like it had had a wild night out. This primer, from Urban Decay, eliminates all creasing, smudginess, and provides the perfect canvas for both eyeshadow and liner alike! Even after a full day of wear, eyeshadow looks fresh. You can even use any of the three shades on their own for a natural, even look. This product will be especially useful during the holiday season, which comes with darker, shimmery eye palettes. I picked mine up in the anti-aging version because, I mean, gotta start somewhere. Maybe it’ll even prevent an eye-lift in 20 years, who knows?

Brushes (top to bottom): 12 | 34

HI! I’m back from my little Philly (and NYC, for a day) adventure. I had the best time exploring both cities with my boyfriend, Mike, but it’s always nice to be back home. Today, I’m reviewing Origins brush cleaner. My mom is almost obsessively clean, and would probably say dirty makeup brushes (/dirty cosmetics in general) are a cardinal sin. Though I grew up with this mentality, I put off washing my brushes. They lose their shape, never dry in a timely fashion, and it’s just kind of a chore. This product, however, makes it SO easy. Spritz some solution onto the brush and simply tissue off the makeup residue. My brushes, though not terribly dirty before, look brand new. They also feel incredibly soft and smell amazing. This is such a wonderful product for maintaining the integrity of your brushes, and I would most certainly recommend it to anyone looking to make this chore easier!

Is anyone else obsessed with having long princess hair? The five year old in me loves channelling Tangled. That said, my hair used to be literally tangled. Long hair that’s thick but very fine? Good LORD just the thought of brushing my hair could bring tears to my eyes and even tempted me to bring scissors to my tresses. Then, a couple years back, I discovered this magical brush. I feel like a lot of you have probably heard of the Wet Brush, or seen it at Target, but y’all, I’m here to tell ya to run out the door and buy one right now. If you never want to rip through snarly hair again, here’s the solution. This brush is specifically designed to combat tangled, knotty hair post wash (you can use it on dry hair too)! It literally slides through my hair without any pulling or breakage and I can carry on with my long locks. I feel like I’m hosting an infomercial for this product but I’m seriously obsessed and I think you will be too!

I got caught at the Chanel counter again y’all, but I’m so glad I did! With it being summer, I have some redness here and there, and aside from that, I wanted my make-up to have a smoother finish. A new primer was in order. Enter Chanel Le Blanc. I picked up this little miracle last week and it’s already a game changer. After moisturizing, I dot it around my face and then apply foundation like usual. Pores appear blurred out and all imperfections are instantly camouflaged! It gives a lasting dewy glow, which everyone is constantly in search of these days. This product also extends the wear of foundation, making my face appear fresh all day long. An added bonus is the SPF 30 and lightweight formula, making this primer ripe for warm weather! If you’re in the market for a skin brightening/perfecting primer, I’ve got your recommendation.

PS: The candle pictured is the single best thing I’ve ever smelled. It came in a set during the Nordstrom sale but is available by itself too!

Product Review: Big Sexy Hair Full Bloom

While paging through the June issue of InStyle, I discovered my newest obsession: Big Sexy Hair Full Bloom. Along with several other products boasting longevity, it was tested by beauty editors and passed the test. It offers 72 hour volume, shine, and smells amazing. Apply to damp hair, from root to tip, and blow dry. After I first used it, I literally felt like I had just walked out of a Dry Bar. My hair was shiny, super soft, super voluminous, and honestly didn’t feel like there was any product in it. You know how mousse or other volume-boosters can leave your hair feeling sticky, heavy, or even “chunky?” Not an issue with Full Bloom. Also, if you’re like me and skip washing your hair for a day (or two), I found my hair was less greasy and had just as much body as the first day! You know what they say, the higher the hair, the closer to Heaven, so run out and pick up this little miracle!

Product Review: Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion

Photo 2

I have really dry skin, so I was pretty jazzed when I saw commercials for Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. I seriously loathe the feeling of regular body lotion, it feels so weird. For this reason, I kind of expected a miracle product, so maybe I set myself up for a bit of disappointment. After using it for several weeks, my skin is still quite dry from the long Wisconsin winter. I thought this product would be the key to never slathering on lotion again, but to see real improvement in my skin, I’ll probably need to. On the bright side, it smells really fresh! I’m going to keep using it, along with regular lotion, so hopefully that’ll do the trick. Has anyone else tried this product? Part of me hopes I’ve just somehow been using it wrong, so I’d love to hear your opinions!

Hope y’all have a great Wednesday!
